I don't know what drove me to buy another Toppeak instead of a Blackburn product, but I'm glad I did.No CONS whatsoever. PROS: SMART HEAD: This is the first smart head I've ever had on a hand pump that actually allowed me to use it on either presta or schraeder valves without either two holes--one for each--or requiring me to make some kind of adjustments to the pump itself. On the prior two Master Blaster pumps I owned for instance, in order to switch from one valve type to the other I would have to remove three parts and reinstall them in a different configuration. And since it wasn't that easy to do so, I really wasn't willing to switch it back and forth to help some other rider in need who had schraeder valves. On this pump, you have one hole, that's it. No adjusting, no taking it apart and putting it back... This one has one improvement over the old pump. The old pump had a metal ring that helped to clip the pump together when not being used so that it wouldn't extend. The clip became stretched and quit working on the old pump. The new one does away with the metal clip and the pump is secure in the bracket.One drawback with the new pump is it doesn't come with the tire tools that came with the old Master Blaster. The tire tools fit on the old pump and were handy when it came time to change a flat tire. That is the only draw back to the new pump (not having the tire tools come with it). The mini pump I got fit the bill for being small enough to fit in the wedge but using it to fill a tire was a challenge. My second attempt was this Harpoon which is too big to fit in the wedge so I had to frame mount it. If you don't mind the size and weight compared to the smallest mini pumps, you'll sure appreciate when you need to inflate a tire. The locking SmartHead means you can glom on to the stem and put the effort into pumping, not struggling to keep everything in place. The ergo design allows for a natural hand position so you can pump without fatique. Pay attention to the black barrel lock on the low pressure stage so that you take advantage of the two-stage design. I missed that part at first and when I discovered it I became even more fond of this pump. |
