I for example am a fairly large man who lives in Oaklands famous Killing Zone, where people hesitate to walk around at dusk and most windows have bars and bike theft is the mildest of concerns residents have. So for me carrying a 11lb chain is price worth paying to keep my bike safe, I also use it on my motorcycle.This chain is a pain at first, it forces you to struggle up the huge hills in the bay area, though now I dare say im in phenomenal shape, and when I do ride with out it I feel superhuman. If a smaller woman or lesser man tried to carry this chain then they had better take it slow and be ready to have their body crumble under the weight. Read more 11 of 11 people found the following review helpful:  Solid lock, but too heavy, By This review is from: Kryptonite New York Noose 1213 Chain Bicycle Lock with Evolution Series 4 Disc Lock Chain Bicycle Lock (4-Foot x 3-Inch) (Sports) No lock is 100% assured to keep your bike safe, but this is probably among the most difficult locks to break.I bought this lock, after a relatively cheap $100 bike of mine got stolen. I used something like 10 mm thick stainless steel chain links paired with a heavy duty pad lock to secure my bike. I thought I'd save a little cash by making the lock from some materials at the local hardware store. Well I surmise from the fragments of chain left over that the thief probably used a blow-torch and power saw to cut through the stainless steel - lesson learned. The heat treated steel in this lock would make it very difficult to cut through using the same approach. Difficult though not impossible. With a carbide saw, a willingness to dull the expensive blade cutting through this lock, and a fair amount of time it's still possible but much less likely for a thief to attempt to steal. From a "keeping your bike safe" standpoint, I have no complaints about... It's entertaining just to see from a distance how passers-by try to comprehend this (conspicuous) monster dwarfing your bike.I celebrate the uncompromising strength and oppressive weight of this chain and lock, but the heft maybe too much for some to bear; It's the closest thing to carrying a pillowcase filled with old doorknobs you can get, and about as scary too... Highly recommended! |
