This is definitely a solid lock, and I like that the metal is covered by a rubber coating to protect bike finish. I also like that they give you 5 keys, one of which has an LED in it. It is also long enough to fit on most bike racks, but would be nicer if it was a bit wider.And the bad. My biggest problem is with the lock/unlock mechanism. First, the metal U must be pushed into the base *just so* in order to be able to lock it. It usually takes me a few seconds to get it right. Also, you can not pull the key out of the lock when the key is turned to unlock - you much turn the key back to lock before pulling it out. The mount attaches to the bike via a strap with a one-way ratchet. I could not use this because the lock was too big to fit anywhere on my bike (it is a smaller frame though, 17") Bottom line: I could overlook all the other shortcomings if the locking mechanism just worked better. I have already dropped and abused it and it has held up. I feel perfectly safe locking my bike up outside on a college campus with this lock. My only complaint is that it's true, OnGuard locks can get a little sticky at times, but for me it's only when I'm trying to jam the key too hard. Tough lock, fell off the holder when i was riding over 20mph, lock is fine. Only complaints are the inlcuded mount for it (broke in a month) and the lock sticking. Great compact lock for college campuses. |
